Humi and Laxman Won “High Altitude Rasuwa Mountain Bike Challenge”

Laxman Malla and Humi Budha Magar won the first edition of High Altitude Rasuwa Mountain Bike Challenge.

In the 31 km race held at Kalikasthan in Rasuwa on Saturday, Malla crossed the finish line in 1 hour 29 minutes and 19 seconds and became the winner.

In the men’s event, Suraj Rana Magar came second and Prakash Thapa Magar came third. Suraj crossed the finish line in 1 hour 29 minutes 42 seconds and Prakash in 1 hour 29 minutes 57 seconds.

Hikmat BK was fourth, Achyut Krishna Kharel fifth, Prachit Thapa Magar sixth, Kiran Rai seventh, Man Bahadur Tamang eighth, Binod Sapkota ninth and Milan Shrestha tenth.

The players who became champions in the men’s and women’s competitions received Rs 40,000 in cash.

The runner-up received Rs 20,000, the third Rs 15,000, the fourth Rs 7,000, the fifth Rs 6,000, the sixth Rs 5,000, the seventh Rs 4,000, the eighth Rs 3,000, the ninth Rs 2,000 and the tenth place winner Rs 1,000.

Hark Lama became the winner in the Masters category of the competition. He covered the distance in 1 hour 45 minutes and 24 seconds. Nayan Manandhar, who finished second, completed the distance in 1 hour 49 minutes and 56 seconds. Pemba Sherpa finished third in 2 hours 5 minutes and 18 seconds.

Kiran Limbu became the winner of the junior competition. He covered the distance in 1 hour 38 minutes 38 seconds. Ashish Tamang finished second in 1 hour 46 minutes and 21 seconds. Rahul Waiba, who finished third, covered the distance in 1 hour 50 minutes and 02 seconds.

The winners of the Masters and Junior categories received Rs 15,000 including medals, the second Rs 10,000 and the third Rs 7,000.

The race started from Kalikasthan at an altitude of 1600 meters, passed through Ghumti Bazar, Lama Tole, Gumba Dada, Syaubari, Lokil (2,300m) Aalu Kharka, Gormu, Kimajong, Khalchet, Jibjibey and finally ended at Kalikasthan.

The competition is jointly organized by the Provincial Sports Council, Bagmati Province and the Nepal Cycling Association. District Cycling Association Rasuwa and District Sports Development Committee Rasuwa coordinated the competition.

With the objective of connecting Bagmati Pradesh with tourism through sports, the Pradesh Sports Council Bagmati Pradesh has been conducting high altitude competition.

Earlier, Bagmati Pradesh Sports Council had jointly organized National Ring Wrestling in Dolakha and Panchpokhari Ultra Trail Half Marathon in Sindhupalchowk.

Former Sports Minister Hit Bahadur Tamang presented medals and cash prizes to the winners.

Dawa Tamang, chairman of the District Sports Development Committee, Rasuwa, informed that an international cycling competition would be organized in the district next year.

Member Secretary of the State Sports Council, Bagmati, Suryalal Bhandari said that the high altitude competition would be continued to promote tourism in the state along with sports.

He said, “The state government has given special emphasis to adventure and tourism sports as per the plan to contribute to the prosperity of the country by linking our geographical diversity and tourism with sports.”
